Selous Game Reserve is 'an untouched gem'

The Selous Game Reserve remains one of Tanzania's "untouched gems", according to tourism officials in the country.

People who are looking for a luxury holiday in Tanzania may choose to head to the southern safari circuit, as this area has not been explored as much as regions in the north.

The Selous Game Reserve is home to a number of rare creatures - including the endangered black rhino - and tourism leaders believe it offers visitors a truly authentic African experience.

It is the largest protected wildlife reserve on the entire continent and accounts for five per cent of Tanzania's total area.

"The Selous is unique among Tanzania's more renowned preserved areas because it is a game reserve, not a national park, and therefore a larger range of activities are permitted," a tourism representative noted.

There are plenty of other options for travellers who are looking for the perfect holiday though, as Tanzania Daily News recently reported that five resorts situated in the Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti and on Lake Manyara recently won recognition in the Condé Nast Traveller 2011 Readers' Choice Awards.
