Ngorongoro Crater sees increased rhino numbers
The number of rhinos living in the Ngorongoro Crater has increased since 1995, when just five of the rare creatures roamed the area.
According to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), there are now 45 rhinos in the region - making it the most densely populated place with the endangered animal in Africa, the Citizen reports.
Tourism development officer at the NCAA Asantael Melita suggested that a huge amount of effort had gone into protecting the species, which were almost wiped out in the 1990s because of poaching.
Because their numbers are so low, people taking a luxury safari in Tanzania can count themselves very lucky if they clap eyes on one of the rhinos, but Mr Melita is hopeful the animals will continue to breed.
"If this trend continues, we hope that their population will hit 50 by 2015," he told the news provider.
Last week, the Guardian reported that Swedish ministers had praised Tanzania for its continued efforts to boost wildlife conservation across the nation.
