Tradition and modernity side-by-side in Amman

Visitors can marvel at the beautiful white-fronted homes that line the streets, all of which are faced with local stone in accordance with city rules.

While the uptown area is the perfect place to experience this thriving city, a trip to the other side of town provides a glimpse into its heritage.

"The downtown area is much older and more traditional with smaller businesses producing and selling everything from fabulous jewellery to everyday household items," the authority added.

A great place to enjoy some retail therapy in Amman is in the famous Gold Souq, which houses vendors who specialise in crafting items from precious metals.
