Experience the majesty of Petra at night

People taking a luxury holiday in Jordan could have a truly unforgettable experience by exploring the ancient city of Petra at night.

The stunning city can be seen from a beautiful new perspective by visiting after sunset, with its incredible Nabataean architecture illuminated by the flickering glow of 1,800 candles.

Night time visits to the city take place three times a week from 20:30 local time and visitors are able to wander about the rose-coloured ruins until 22:30. A highlight is the breathtaking sight of the iconic Treasury building, which is carved directly into the rock face.

"Walk through the Siq to the Khazneh following a candle-lit path and enjoy the haunting music of the Bedouins at the Treasury," Jordan's tourism board advises.

Established in the 6th century, Petra was once at the centre of trading in the region, thanks to its position as a crossroads between the east and west.
