Mobile phone network supports Tanzania in Wonder contest
Tanzanians have been urged to showcase their patriotism and register a late vote for Mount Kilimanjaro in the New Seven Wonders of the World competition.
Mobile phone network provider Vodacom launched a free text vote service earlier this week, which will enable people to show their support for the landmark.
The voting process will end tomorrow (November 11th), when the organisers of the competition will name the new seven wonders.
Tourism chiefs believe more people will be encouraged to embark on luxury holidays in Tanzania if the mountain secures the status.
Chief officer of marketing and corporate affairs at Vodacom Mwamvita Makamba has urged Tanzanians to take advantage of the free text vote.
"As Tanzanians we [have] always [been] proud of the mountain and let us now prove [to] the world that we love it and we care for it," she remarked.
Kilimanjaro must overcome some strong opposition if it is to land the accreditation, as 27 other destinations, including South Africa's Table Mountain and Jordan's Dead Sea are also in the running.
