Jordan 'becoming an adventure travel hotspot'

An increasing number of people are taking luxury holidays in Jordan in order to satisfy their need for adventure.

Travel chiefs in the country have suggested that more tourists are looking to follow in the footsteps of famous historical figures such as Lawrence of Arabia and the Roman Emperor Hadrian by trekking across the picturesque nation.

They believe that with fascinating landmarks such as Wadi Rum, Petra and the Dead Sea on its soil, it is obvious why travellers keep flocking to the country.

Adventure holidaymakers are also attracted to the destination because of the fine array of luxurious hotels that offer unbeatable relaxation after a hard day exploring historical landmarks.

"Outdoor 'adventure tourism' is expanding at a fast rate in Jordan and promises to remain one of the most dynamic and innovative travel industry sectors for years to come," a tourism representative noted.

The Airport International Group recently reported that more than four million people visited Jordan between January and September 2011.
