Luxury Mediterranean holiday villas: Mallorca is a 'spectacular' destination

Travellers planning to stay in luxury Mediterranean holiday villas may wish to stay on the Spanish island of Mallorca, as it is a "spectacular" destination.

That is the opinion of Simon Calder, a travel broadcaster and writer, who was taking part in a live question and answer session on The Independent newspaper's website.

The travel expert was asked for recommendations in regard to travelling in and around the Mediterranean and particularly his opinions on the sea's largest island.

"I wouldn't recommend Sicily particularly, because it's so big, but strongly recommend Mallorca ... so long as you go off season," he said.

"[Mallorca has] spectacular terrain and fascinating villages to explore, once you leave the coast. Equally good for mountain biking."

Mr Calder might be best known for his work on television and radio, presenting such shows as The LBC Travel Show and providing guest analysis on programmes shows including This Morning and The One Show.
