People planning luxury honeymoon holidays should visit Istanbul, as it is full of historic spas and lavish restaurants.

Joanna Marsh, a spokeswoman for the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office, said that the history and culture of the city are two things that draw people to Istanbul. She also outlined some attractions that people on luxury honeymoon holidays should visit.

"Head to a traditional Turkish bath, visit Topkapi Palace and the Blue Mosque, but also make time to eat out at one of the swanky restaurants on the Bosphorus," she said.

"[Visitors could also visit] the trendy area of Beyoglu and visit more contemporary attractions such as the Museum of Modern Art."

According to recently-released passenger traffic figures, published by ACI Europe, both Ataturk International and Sabiha Gokcen International airports saw an increase in passengers for March 2011, when compared to figures released last year.

Ms Marsh added that Istanbul is "a really vibrant cosmopolitan city".
