Luxury holidays: Turkey holidays have 'gone from strength to strength'

Cappadocia is known for its beautiful 'fairy chimneys'

Travellers deciding on a destination for their latest luxury holiday should consider a trip to Turkey, as the country has "gone from strength to strength" in the holiday market.

That is according to Tolga Tuyluoglu, the director of the UK and Ireland for the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office, who also quoted some statistics to prove the country's popularity.

"Turkey has gone from strength to strength in the UK market, and has been one of the fastest-growing destinations for British visitors over the past five years," he said.

Last year, 28.6 million people visited Turkey from around the world; of this number, 2,673,605 came from the UK. This represents an increase of more than ten per cent on 2009's figures.

Some attractions that draw travellers to Turkey on luxury holidays include the romantic landscape of Cappadocia, with its famous natural 'fairy chimneys' made of rock and reaching into the desert air.
