Luxury adventure: Gobi Desert is a 'playground for adventurers'
Luxury adventure holiday-makers should consider taking a trip to Mongolia, especially taking in the Gobi Desert, which is a "playground for … adventurers".
That is according to Nigel Richardson, a travel writer for The Daily Telegraph, who recently took a holiday to the Asian desert.
Mr Richardson suggested that the region offers much more than the usual arid image of the place suggests.
"The Gobi is not just sand and gravel … It diversifies into mountains and evergreen forest and geological freak shows – including a dune system as long and high as a mountain range," he wrote.
"[It also] sustains an array of endangered species that includes wild ass, wild camels and snow leopards."
The Gobi is a huge cold desert located across two countries in Asia, covering not only southern Mongolia but northern China as well.
The desert was created by the nearby Himalayan mountain range. The sheer height of the mountains stop rain-carrying clouds from reaching the area.
