Tailor made holidays: 'Impressive' Guatemala is ideal for travellers who like peace
Groups planning to take a luxury tailor made holiday based around Mayan history should think about travelling to the Central American country of Guatemala.
That is because Guatemala is an "impressive" destination for those who enjoy slightly more secluded tailor made holidays, according to travel author Kevin Rushby, who was writing in the Guardian newspaper about a trip to the country.
"Given [the] significance and all the impressive remains of pyramids and palaces, you might … expect a glut of tourists, but you would be wrong," he said.
"[But] our little group is alone … a single caretaker guard tells us that he sees fewer than a hundred people a year - and most of those are local schoolchildren."
Kevin Rushby is the author of four travel books, including Eating the Flowers of Paradise - which details the writer's journey around Yemen - and Paradise: A History of the Idea That Rules the World.
