Tailor made holidays: Tongariro National Park is 'unique'
Families planning a luxury tailor made holiday in New Zealand should make sure they visit the unique Tongariro National Park, it has been claimed.
Travel writer Gill Williams recently visited the park and claimed its volcanic landscape extreme weather conditions make it like no other place on earth.
She wrote on the Daily Mirror website: "The Tongariro National Park, one of the few places on Earth where you can follow trails that start in a green rainforest with palm trees and continue up into the snow."
The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is the most famous walkway in the park, and although guests are likely to spend a full day to complete it, they will be able to see lakes, glacial valleys and lava flows.
Holidaymakers may also like to take a trip to the nearby town of Ohakune during the night to watch the region's forest become illuminated by glow worms.
