Luxury Mediterranean holiday villas: Bookings for Spain on the rise

More Britons could be set to stay in luxury Mediterranean holiday villas in Spain this year, according to a new study.

Market research company GfK Ascent has revealed that holidays to Spain are proving to be the most popular in 2011, with around a third (32 per cent) of total bookings being made to the country.

Alex Francis of travel search engine website Travelmatch claimed that Spain is proving especially popular this year with tourists as visitors are always drawn to the range of attractions in the country.

He said: "The feedback we have received shows that British travellers in Spain truly enjoy their time in that country, and are always willing to recommend it to their friends and family.

"This is due to the warm weather and great amenities that are set up to receive tourists."

GfK Ascent also revealed that Greece and Cyprus are the second and third most popular holiday destinations respectively.
