Newlyweds looking for luxury honeymoon ideas could follow in the footsteps of a travel writer and enjoy a break in the Maldives.

Vida Rodgers recently got married and decided to spend her honeymoon on the islands and claimed the holiday was the perfect mix of unique activities, such as underwater diving, and relaxing on stunning white sand beaches.

She wrote on the Daily Mail website: "It was time to enter a world that has to be seen to be believed.

"No amount of underwater films nor television natural history programmes prepares you for the triggerfish, parrotfish, stingrays, turtles and even harmless sharks that you see while diving in the Maldives."

Visitors to the islands can also enjoy a two-hour snorkelling trip at a reef, with Ms Rodgers spotting a range of sea creatures during her time underwater including multi-coloured schools of fish, starfish, coral formations and even a florescent blue cuttle-fish.

The Maldives are a double-chain of 26 atolls in the Indian Ocean.
