Luxury family holidays: Escape to Cuba this winter

Britons planning to escape the recent cold weather should visit Cuba, according to a travel writer.

Louise Steward recently paid a visit to the country and claimed that, despite its differences from many other Caribbean islands, holidaymakers will still be able to enjoy sun, sea and sand.

She wrote on the Metro website: "This is a fine place to escape the British winter. It might offer a rather different experience to the rest of the Caribbean but Cuba still boasts the trademark white-sand-turquoise-sea idyll: try laid-back Cayo Levisa out west; the huge dunes of Playa Pilar further east; or Playa Santa Maria, for sun fun near the capital."

Former leader Fidel Castro and brother Raoul are both now in old age, with many commentators concerned that the country may be a very different place following their demise.

Ms Steward therefore urged holidaymakers to visit the country now while it remains unique.
