Tailor made holidays: Stay at the 'luxurious' Jardin du Roy in Madagascar

Britons planning tailor made holidays in Madagascar should stay at the luxurious Jardin du Roy hotel, according to a travel writer.

Kate Eshelby, travel correspondent for the Independent, expressed her belief that the resort is an ideal location to rest before exploring the nearby Isalo National Park.

She said: "It is sunk into a basin of rocks and is impressively camouflaged. The simplicity of its exterior is almost monastic, yet this hides chic and luxurious interiors.

"Beyond the hotel there are miles of park. Water cascades from the jungle above and bright light skips across the rocky overhangs. These grottos and jungles are isolated within steep canyons; stumbling upon them is like finding your own enchanted world."

Ms Eshelby added that visitors should try and climb to one of the national park's peaks in order to see "panoramic views" of the surrounding area.

Jardin du Roy is one of three French-owned hotels located in the private grounds near to the reserve.
