Tailor made holidays: Enjoy the stunning landmarks of Rome
Britons planning tailor made holidays in Rome should visit the city's famous landmarks, it has been claimed.
Peter Carbery, writing for the Daily Express' travel website tripideas.co.uk, expressed his belief that the range of famous attractions are a must-see for all holidaymakers.
He said: "The cooling waters and amazing sculptures of the Trevi went down well, as did the artists holding court around Piazza Navona, the iconic grandeur of the Colosseum and the atmospheric Pantheon (particularly its open domed roof and the 'secret' holes in the floor that take care of any rainfall)."
Mr Carbery added that that those who are planning a long stay in the city should rent a car and explore the Castelli Romani – an area of 13 towns around 20km outside of the city centre.
Holidaymakers can witness stunning views across the Alban Hills to St Peter's from the town of Frascati, while the Castel Gandolfo has been the Pope's summer residence over the past 500 years.
