Tailor made holidays: Enjoy the 'picture perfect' Amalfi Coast

Britons planning tailor made holidays in Italy should visit the picturesque Amalfi Coast, according to a travel writer.

Davey Byrne, writing for the Daily Express' travel website tripideas.co.uk, claimed that the 30-mile stretch of coast is full of scenic seaside towns, such as Ravello and Sorrento, which are ideal places to visit.

He said: "These enchanting seaside resorts, with cobbled streets, shaded piazzas, ornate churches and palaces, appear to cascade down the hillside into the turquoise waters of the sea below, while the hair-pin cliff-side roads offer wonderful views across the Bay Of Naples to the brooding Mount Vesuvius in the distance."

Mr Byrne added that Sorrento, which is located to the south of Naples and set on a clifftop, is the perfect base to explore the surrounding coastal towns.

The town is also home to the archeological ruins of the ancient settlement of Pompeii, which was destroyed by a volcano in 79 AD.
