Luxury family holiday: People holidaying in Mexico must try the 'street food classics'

A huge range of street food is available in Mexico

People on a luxury family holiday in Mexico must try one of the many "classic" street food dishes, to get an authentic feel of the country.

That is according to travel expert John Hecht, who put forward this opinion in an article on the Lonely Planet website.

To get a real sense of the culture of the Central American country, Mr Hecht said that people travelling to the country should eat some food served by street vendors.

Street food is ideal for people on luxury family holidays, as children will love the instant gratification it offers.

This food, however, comes with a warning: "Order a consomme to accompany [your food] and you just might decide to change the date on your return ticket," Mr Heckt writes.

Mr Hecht has written three Lonely Planet guidebooks about the Central American country: one overview called Mexico and two region-specific books for Puerto Vallarta and Pacific Mexico.
