New Zealand: Lake Wanaka has everything for walkers

Lake Wanaka is one of the top locations for walking in New Zealand and outdoors enthusiasts will be pleased to hear that a number of new tracks have been added to the area.

Visitors to the region can now take advantage of three riverside trails which take Lake Wanaka's network of walking routes to 750 kilometres.

There is something for everyone to enjoy, from simple lakeside strolls to more challenging paths and high alpine treks.

James Helmore, Lake Wanaka Tourism general manager, said that the region is among the best destinations for walking in New Zealand and that everyone who comes here will leave having had a memorable experience.

"Lake Wanaka is a walkers' paradise offering some of the most unforgettable hiking in New Zealand, with breathtaking scenery and great variety, from short local walks along the rivers to multi-day guided adventures at Mt Aspiring National Park," he added.

A recent bucket list survey conducted by Fidelity Life found that Lake Wanaka is the place most Kiwis would like to visit if they were given only 12 months to live.
