Luxury ski resorts: St Moritz 'ideal' early season destination

St Moritz, one of the premier luxury ski resorts in Switzerland, is an ideal early season skiing location, it has been claimed.

Gabriella Le Breton, writing for the Telegraph, revealed that the high altitude of the resort means St Moritz enjoys reliable snowfall.

She said: "The superb conditions have seen the locals dust off their skis sharpish and take to the blissfully empty slopes.

"Arguably St Moritz's greatest secret is its challenging off-piste terrain, which locals are currently shredding to their hearts' delight."

Visitors will also find deep powder just off the pistes of the resort's two main mountains - Corvatsch and Corviglia.

According to Ms Le Breton, the Swiss resort has two sides, with the "glitz and glamour" of luxury bars, restaurants and designer boutiques counterbalanced by more low-key local stores for those who seek them.

During its opening weekend, St Moritz holds the annual City Race which features around 40 teams of three competitors skiing in a relay slalom race.
